Self-Serving Move: Lifetime Blue Passports for MPAs, Spouses in KP

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has approved a new law allowing members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) and their spouses to receive lifetime Blue Passports.

The legislation, introduced by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government, grants eligible MPAs and their spouses Blue Passports valid for life, replacing the previous practice under which such passports were generally issued for a five-year period.

Blue Passports in Pakistan are typically issued to government officials, members of parliament, ministers, judges and their eligible family members for official travel.

Under the newly approved law, qualifying provincial lawmakers and their spouses will now be entitled to lifetime Blue Passports instead of renewable five-year documents.

The measure was passed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Tuesday. No further details were immediately available regarding its implementation or the date from which the new provision will take effect.
