TORONTO: Senegal produced a dominant display to defeat Iraq 5-0 in their FIFA World Cup Group I match on Friday, becoming the first African nation to score five goals in a single World Cup match.

Habib Diarra opened the scoring in the fourth minute, giving Senegal an early lead before Pape Gueye struck twice to put the match beyond Iraq’s reach.

Ismaila Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye added a goal each to complete an emphatic victory and seal a historic milestone for the African side.

The win keeps Senegal’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive, while Iraq suffered a heavy setback in their qualification campaign.
