Slow progress in repatriation of Afghan nationals

Govt has set November 1 as deadline for all illegal aliens to leave Pakistan.

PESHAWAR: While the deadline for all illegal foreigners to leave Pakistan approaches, there has been a slow pace seen in the return of Afghan nations from Pakistan who make up majority of the aliens in the country.

According to officials at the Afghan birder areas who document the return of the Afghans, by October 15 just 1,530 Afghans had been repatriated to Afghanistan via Torkham border

The European Union Agency of Asylum and IFJ said that foreign nationals residing illegally in Pakistan are involved in terror activities and financial crimes.

Besides Pakistan, Iran had also expelled over one million Afghans in 2021.

Foreign nationals residing illegally in Pakistan have been directed to leave by November 1 or dace deportation from Pakistan.

However, no action will be taken against those Afghan nationals who are registered in the country.

In a related development, the district administration of Lower Chitral has directed all illegal Afghan nationals to leave the district by October 25, a week before the deadline set by the government.
