Street Children’s Artwork Showcased at University of Peshawar
PESHAWAR: The University of Peshawar celebrated the International Day of Artists with an art exhibition at PUTA Hall as part of the university’s 75th Anniversary celebrations.
The event was jointly organized by the Department of Social Welfare (Merged Districts) in collaboration with the Department of Art & Design, University of Peshawar, and supported by UNICEF. The exhibition provided a platform for street children to display their artwork, expressing their experiences and challenges through creative means.
The Chief Guest, Ms. Tayaba, former Chairperson of the Department of Fine Arts, University of Peshawar, inaugurated the exhibition. Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare (Merged Districts), UNICEF, university faculty members, and students also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, organizers emphasized the importance of art as a tool for empowerment and self-expression, especially for vulnerable children. The initiative aims to engage street children in life skills-based education, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), and creative art activities to promote their overall well-being.
The Department of Social Welfare and the Department of Art & Design expressed gratitude to Ms. Qurat Ain and Ms. Faiza Tauqeer, Chairperson of the Department of Art & Design, for their valuable support in organizing the exhibition. The departments also pledged continued collaboration in future art-based initiatives for the social and emotional development of street children in Peshawar.
A souvenir was presented to the Department of Social Welfare team in recognition of their dedicated efforts to engage and support street children through developmental and creative activities.
