LONG ISLAND: Mehdad Islam has been appointed as the Muslim Chaplain of Suffolk County Police Department.
Chaplain Mehdad Islam was born in Manhattan and moved to Long Island at the age of 10, settling in Shirley, NY, where he has lived ever since.
Over the appointment, the Muslims of Long Island have congratulated Mr Islam.
In a statement, it said he pursued his Islamic education at a seminary in Ajax, Canada, completing both his Hifdh and Alimiyyah Program. Upon returning to Long Island, he earned a dual
undergraduate degree in Computer Science and World Religions from St. Joseph’s University.
Throughout his academic journey, he remained dedicated to his local Muslim community, serving as an Imam and board trustee at the Islamic Center of Mastic- Shirley-a role he continues to fulfill today.
Recently, he was appointed as the Chaplain for the Suffolk County Police Department, where he leads prayers and provides spiritual guidance for the department.
Beyond his community and chaplaincy work, Mehdad is a devoted husband and father to three wonderful daughters.
