UK Varsities Suspend Admissions for Pakistani, Bangladeshi Students

LONDON: Pakistani and Bangladeshi students are facing new difficulties in the United Kingdom as several British universities have halted their admission processes for applicants from the two countries.

According to reports, nine UK universities have suspended admissions for students from Pakistan and Bangladesh. Institutions including the University of Chester, University of Wolverhampton, University of East London, University of Sunderland, and Coventry University, among others, have stopped processing new applications.

The universities have reportedly taken this step due to a rising number of students from both countries seeking political asylum after arriving in the UK. The trend has raised concerns about the misuse of the student visa system.

The UK’s Minister for Border Security, Angela Eagle, stated that the visa system must not be used as a “backdoor” for long-term settlement.

A recent report revealed that Pakistan was among the top countries whose citizens filed asylum applications in the UK last year.

Meanwhile, several other British universities are also reviewing and considering changes to their admission policies for Pakistani and Bangladeshi students.
