UN Secretary General Welcomes US-Iran Peace Deal, Praises Pakistan’s Role

NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Sunday welcomed the peace agreement between the United States and Iran, calling it a major step toward ending the conflict and restoring regional stability.

Guterres said the agreement provides for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a framework for continued negotiations.

He described the deal as a critical breakthrough for the peaceful settlement of the conflict and expressed hope for sustained diplomatic engagement.

The UN chief also praised several regional countries for supporting the negotiations that led to the agreement.

Pakistan Among Key Facilitators

Guterres thanked Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and other regional partners for their constructive role in advancing the talks.

He said their diplomatic efforts helped create the conditions necessary for reaching the peace deal.

The agreement is expected to ease tensions in the region and improve security around key international shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.

Diplomatic observers view the breakthrough as a significant development for regional peace and future dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
