WASHINGTON: The United States has introduced stricter rules for obtaining a Green Card, making the process more challenging for foreign applicants seeking permanent residency.
Under the new policy introduced during the Trump administration, individuals applying for permanent residence will generally be required to submit their applications from outside the United States through the US State Department.
According to reports, only in exceptional circumstances will applicants be allowed to adjust their status while staying within the country.
A spokesperson for the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Zack Kehler, stated that foreign nationals currently residing in the United States on temporary visas will now need to return to their home countries to apply for a Green Card.
The updated guidelines specifically affect non-immigrant visa holders, including international students, temporary workers, and tourists.
The move is expected to impact thousands of applicants and may significantly slow down the process for those seeking permanent residency in the United States.
