US University to Launch First-Ever Campus in Pakistan
Islamabad: Arizona State University (ASU) is set to make history by establishing its first-ever physical campus in Pakistan.
In partnership with local stakeholders, ASU will open the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Lahore, a significant milestone in the country’s higher education sector.
The campus is scheduled to begin operations in Fall 2025, offering students a world-class educational experience rooted in American academic standards.
ASU is known for its high-quality academic programs, and the launch of NIT will raise Pakistan’s educational standards by providing an international curriculum tailored to the country’s unique needs.
This partnership is a reflection of the growing global interest in Pakistan as an emerging hub for higher education and innovation.
The initiative is being led by Shahzeb Awan, a University of London-trained lawyer, and Jahanzeb Burana, a Harvard-educated finance professional.
Both bring extensive international experience and a shared vision to revolutionize higher education in Pakistan. Their leadership and commitment are central to making NIT a beacon of academic excellence.
The agreement between ASU and local partners was finalized in April 2025, during a meeting at ASU’s Tempe campus.
The collaboration is designed to provide students with an academically rigorous environment, empowering them to compete globally in the fields of management, data science, and technology.
One of the standout features of NIT is its dual-degree program, which allows students to earn degrees from both ASU and NIT.
This unique pathway gives students the opportunity to study both in Pakistan and abroad, opening doors to a variety of global academic and career prospects.
Through ASU’s international network, students will also have access to study abroad programs and exchange opportunities.
In addition, NIT students will be able to participate in programs at ASU’s campuses in Washington D.C., California, and numerous partner institutions globally.
This international exposure will equip students with the skills and experiences needed to excel in an increasingly interconnected world.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has praised the collaboration as a transformational step for Pakistan’s educational system. During a meeting with ASU representatives on July 24, 2025, he highlighted the long-term benefits of this partnership, emphasizing that it would provide Pakistani youth with the skills needed to thrive in the global economy.
The government’s commitment to modernizing the education system aligns with NIT’s goal of producing highly skilled graduates who can contribute to Pakistan’s development and success in the international arena.
The opening of NIT in Lahore is expected to be a game-changer for Pakistan’s education landscape. With a focus on technology, data sciences, and management, NIT will offer cutting-edge programs that prepare students for leadership roles in various industries.
The initiative also promises to create new job opportunities and bolster Pakistan’s position on the global academic stage.
NIT’s arrival in Fall 2025 signals a bright future for education in Pakistan, one that promises to equip students with the knowledge and skills required for success in a rapidly changing world.
