Videos of Gaza Aid Workers’ Humiliation Spark Outrage

GAZA: Israeli forces have detained 430 humanitarian volunteers from a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, triggering global concern after videos surfaced showing alleged mistreatment of the detainees, according to international media reports.

The flotilla, named Sumud Flotilla, was reportedly carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza when it was intercepted in international waters. Organizers said Israeli naval forces boarded several vessels during the operation and detained volunteers representing more than 40 countries.

According to reports, the detainees were taken to Israel where controversial footage later emerged showing Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visiting a detention facility. In the viral videos, detainees can be seen with their hands tied behind their backs and forced into humiliating positions.

In one widely circulated clip, the minister is heard addressing the detainees in a confrontational tone, stating that they were “welcome in Israel” and claiming authority over their detention. Another video shows a detainee chanting pro-Palestine slogans before being subdued by security personnel.

The footage has drawn strong criticism from rights activists and international observers, who have called the treatment of humanitarian workers “degrading” and “in violation of international norms.”

Organizers of the flotilla alleged that some vessels came under fire during the interception, although Israeli authorities maintain that the blockade is in place to prevent weapons smuggling into Gaza.

Israel has enforced a maritime blockade on Gaza since 2007, which it says is necessary for security reasons. However, human rights organizations have repeatedly described the blockade as collective punishment affecting civilians.

The incident comes amid rising global tensions over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, with renewed calls for international investigations into the treatment of detained aid workers.
