ISLAMABAD: The anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Wednesday issued perpetual warrants for the arrest of nine senior leaders of the embattled PTI in a terrorism case.
The case relates to violence and attack on public property at the judicial complex of Islamabad in March this year.
The PTI leaders are accused of instigating the attack during appearance of former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan in a court in connection with the Toshakhana case in March.
The nominated persons did not appear in the court despite repeated notices and today Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain issued arrest warrants against them.
The PTI leaders against whom the warrants were issued included Hammad Azhar, Shibli Faraz, Murad Saeed, Omar Ayub Khan and Ali Amin Gandapur. Perpetual arrest warrants were also issued for Ali Nawaz Awan, Hassaan Khan Niazi, Umer Sultan and Muhammad Asim.
The judge directed the police to arrest the accused persons and present them before the court as they have already been declared proclaimed offenders.
It may be mentioned here that former prime minister Imran Khan and over 100 of his supporters are already in jail in connect with violence and arson attacks cases registered against them on May 9.
Imran has been kept in Adiala jail of Rawalpindi in another case. The over 102 supporters of the PTI are in different jails and were being trialed under army Act for attacking military installations.
However, the Supreme Court of Pakistan recently declared trials of civilians in military courts as null and void and directed yo transfer their cases to civilian courts.
