RIYADH: The World Bank has reaffirmed its support for Pakistan’s 10-year development programme worth $20 billion, emphasising the importance of effective coordination and timely implementation to maximise its developmental impact.
The assurance was given during a meeting between Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb and World Bank Managing Director Anna Bjerde on the sidelines of the annual AlUla Conference for Emerging Market Economies held in Saudi Arabia.
During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on the Country Partnership Framework and Pakistan’s development priorities. Cooperation in key sectors including energy, education, health, climate change, and financial reforms was reviewed.
Anna Bjerde reiterated the World Bank’s full backing for Pakistan’s long-term development programme and stressed that efficient and timely execution would be crucial to achieving sustainable economic growth and social development outcomes.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb expressed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining close collaboration with the World Bank and assured that all relevant federal ministries would extend full cooperation.
He also highlighted the importance of active participation and coordination by provincial governments to ensure smooth implementation and better alignment of development initiatives.
