Young Doctors Announce Protest in Quetta Over Acid Attack

QUETTA: Young doctors in Quetta have announced a protest starting today following the recent acid attack on a female doctor.

According to the Young Doctors Association, all services in government hospitals—except emergency care—will remain suspended. The doctors termed the acid attack a major security failure and demanded a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident.

During a press conference, they stressed that the safety of medical professionals must be ensured and called on authorities to take concrete steps to prevent such incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, Balochistan’s Adviser for Home Affairs, Babar Yousafzai, urged the doctors to resolve their concerns through dialogue with the health department rather than protests. He warned that shutting down outpatient and ward services would create serious difficulties for patients.

Officials also confirmed that the injured doctor, who suffered burns to the head, neck, and face, has been shifted from Sandeman Provincial Hospital to Aga Khan University Hospital for treatment and remains under intensive care.

Authorities stated that the suspect involved in the acid attack was killed in a police encounter, and initial investigations suggest he had been harassing the doctor for several months, with evidence recovered from his mobile phone.
