Zardari Says Pakistan Showed Mercy to India, Warns of Strong Response

Advises PPP workers to remain united claiming I alone would confront any challenges. We are ready to fight for Pakistan’s honor.

GARHI KHUDA BAKHSH: President Asif Ali Zardari here on Saturday said Pakistan would not hesitate to respond to any aggression, particularly from India, as it did in May this year.

“We could have downed more of India’s planes, but we chose to show mercy. India should thank us for showing restraint, but if they dare to attack again, we are ready.”

He was addressing a large gathering on the 18th death anniversary of his wife, former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. The event saw speeches from various leaders, including PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Zardari said: “When the war broke out, my military secretary told me that we should take shelter in a bunker. I told him, ‘We die in the battlefield, we are ready.’” His message was clear: Pakistan’s leadership was not afraid of conflict, but would stand firm if necessary. He added, “We could have downed more of India’s planes, but we chose to show mercy. India should thank us for showing restraint, but if they dare to attack again, we are ready.”

The president also emphasized the strength and resolve of Pakistan’s military leadership, stating, “We have a chief who gave India a crushing response. India now knows we are capable of defending ourselves.” He declared that India, despite its larger size and military power, could not match the courage and resolve of Pakistan’s leaders.

He also spoke about the PPP, urging workers to remain vigilant. “I told my workers to be cautious while I alone would confront any challenges. We are ready to fight for Pakistan’s honor,” Zardari said.

Zardari reminded the crowd of the famous slogan “Pakistan Khappay”. “That slogan, Pakistan Khappay, is Benazir’s. It will live on,” he said.
