ISLAMABAD: A tragic road accident on the Murree Expressway claimed the lives of 10 passengers after a van caught fire, while 11 others sustained injuries, officials and hospital sources confirmed.
According to rescue and hospital authorities, the ill-fated passenger van caught fire while traveling on the expressway under unclear circumstances. The blaze quickly engulfed the vehicle, resulting in multiple fatalities before emergency responders could bring the situation under control.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the PIMS where they were placed in the morgue for identification and completion of legal formalities. Authorities confirmed that the identification process of all victims has been completed.
Hospital officials stated that 11 injured passengers, belonging to a single family, are receiving treatment at the Burns Center of PIMS. Their condition is being closely monitored.
Police and rescue teams have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Initial reports suggest the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames within minutes of the incident.
