14,000 Security Personnel Called In as AJK Braces for Long March

MUZAFFARABAD: Authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir have placed the region on high alert ahead of a planned long march, requisitioning around 14,000 security personnel from federal forces.

According to officials, the security measures are being implemented in view of a protest and long march scheduled for June 9 by the Joint Awami Action Committee. A formal request for additional personnel was made by the Inspector General of Police to the chief secretary and home secretary.

Strict checking has been ordered at all entry and exit points of the region, with law enforcement agencies directed to remain on high alert. Authorities have also made screening mandatory for individuals entering from the federal capital, while surveillance of suspicious movements has been intensified.

The security deployment includes 6,000 personnel from the Frontier Constabulary, 5,000 troops from the Pakistan Army, 2,000 Islamabad Police officials, and 1,000 personnel from Sindh Police.

Officials said 60 percent of the deployed force will be stationed at entry points and key locations, while the remaining 40 percent will conduct patrols and monitoring in sensitive districts.

The security plan will remain in effect from June 7 to June 21, 2026. The government has also issued a travel advisory, urging tourists to exercise caution during this period and calling on the public to cooperate fully with security agencies.
