ISLAMABAD: The National Economic Council has approved the country’s development budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026–27 during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to sources, the meeting reviewed the progress of the current fiscal year’s development budget (2025–26) and finalized key economic targets for the next year. Federal and provincial Annual Development Programmes (ADPs) were also discussed in detail.
Participants were briefed on the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) for both the outgoing and upcoming fiscal years, while a performance report of the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) covering April 2025 to March 2026 was presented.
The council also reviewed reports on approvals of various development projects by CDWP and ECNEC, along with monitoring and evaluation reports of major development schemes.
At the conclusion of the meeting, key decisions regarding development expenditures, economic priorities, and future projects for FY2026–27 were formally endorsed.
