KARACHI: The Bangladesh national volleyball team has arrived in Pakistan to participate in the International Volleyball Championship.
The championship is being organized by the Pakistan Volleyball Federation, while India has withdrawn after its government declined permission for the team to travel.
The seven-day tournament will begin on Wednesday at Islamabad’s Liaquat Gymnasium. Upon arrival at Karachi Airport, the Bangladesh squad and officials received a warm welcome from representatives of the Sindh Volleyball Association, who greeted them with flower garlands.
Meanwhile, the Indian government once again refused to allow its national volleyball team to travel to Pakistan for the championship. The Volleyball Federation of India formally apologized to the organizers after failing to secure government approval.
Pakistan had already issued the necessary entry permits for the Indian team, while the Pakistani High Commission in India had also expressed its readiness to issue visas.
The Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Men’s Volleyball Championship will continue until July 29. Following India’s withdrawal, tournament organizers invited Uzbekistan to participate.
The championship will feature teams from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan, with the final scheduled for July 29.
