Lawyer Imaan Mazari arrested in Islamabad

Police say the human rights activist has been taken into custody for investigation in a case.

ISLAMABAD: Lawyer and human rights activist Imaan Mazari has been arrested from her residence in Islamabad early on Sunday.

Ms Iman, in a post on X stated briefly at about 4am that unknown persons were trying to enter her house by scaling the wall.

The Islamabad police later confirmed that they have taken Iman and Ali Wazir [of PTM] into custody fir investigation in a case. The police claimed that all legal formalities were completed to arrest the lawyer. 

 

 

However, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan ((HRCP) condemned the arrest and said she had been taken into custody without a court warrant.

It may be noted that Iman had made a speech at a public gathering of Pashtoon Tahafuz Movement (PTM) in Islamabad and targeted state institutions a day earlier.
