ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has banned TikTok in Pakistan over the advertisement of immoral and inappropriate video content.
A statement issued by the PTA confirmed the ban on the video-sharing app TikTok, saying the TikTok administration had been given adequate time to remove unethical content and prevent the promotion of such content in the future.
The spokesperson said that warning letters were written to the TikTok administration on August 28 and September 24 this year after the PTA received complaints from schools of thought. The PTA asked TikTok to submit a final notice and reply was given a respite.
The PTA has banned the video-sharing app for failing to address complaints from TikTok, and has formally notified its management, the statement said. The lifting ban may be reconsidered, said in the notification.
