QUETTA: The Balochistan Health Department has taken strict action against protesting young doctors, suspending 23 doctors and issuing show-cause notices to 25 officials over alleged violations of rules and departmental discipline.

According to the department’s spokesperson, the action was taken in response to what it termed an illegal strike, unauthorized activities, and disruption of official duties in government hospitals across the province.

In addition, the registration of five postgraduate trainee doctors has been suspended, and a formal inquiry has been initiated against them.

Officials said the measures were necessary to prevent disruption of healthcare services, as the protest had raised concerns about patient care in public hospitals. The department reiterated that all government health facilities would remain open and operational.

The Health Department warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against any staff absent from essential services, including emergency units, intensive care units (ICUs), and operation theatres.

Meanwhile, a senior health official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that while the right to protest is recognized, it should not come at the cost of patients’ lives.

On the other hand, the provincial government has formed a high-level committee to review the security situation in healthcare institutions. The committee comprises senior government officials, doctors, health department representatives, and security authorities.

An adviser to the Chief Minister confirmed that doctors’ concerns, including security, facilities, and benefits, would be addressed seriously. However, he stressed that protests should not disrupt the healthcare system.

The protests were reportedly launched by young doctors demanding better working conditions, improved security, and enhanced training facilities.

The provincial government has urged all stakeholders to resolve the matter through dialogue to avoid further impact on the healthcare system. :::
