Ambassador Highlights Pakistan’s Evolving Geopolitical Role

WASHINGTON: The School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University SIPA hosted a high-level discussion titled “A Conversation with the Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States: Pakistan’s Emerging Role in Geopolitics.”

The session featured Rizwan Saeed Sheikh and was attended by the Consul General of Pakistan in New York, Aamer Ahmed Atozai, underlining the importance of sustained academic and diplomatic engagement.
Moderated by Rumela Sen, the conversation explored Pakistan’s foreign policy priorities within an increasingly complex global landscape.

Ambassador Sheikh traced the evolution of Pakistan–United States relations, highlighting both longstanding cooperation and shifting strategic dynamics. He also emphasized Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue, including efforts related to engagement in the Iran–U.S. context, reflecting the country’s commitment to regional stability.

The Ambassador further discussed how geopolitical considerations shape Pakistan’s policymaking, pointing to the interplay of regional developments, economic imperatives, and security concerns.

He outlined future opportunities and challenges, noting Pakistan’s intention to navigate a multipolar world while strengthening international partnerships.
An interactive Q&A session followed, where students engaged on issues such as regional security, economic diplomacy, and Pakistan’s strategic direction.

The event concluded with strong participation, reinforcing SIPA’s role as a platform for meaningful dialogue on global affairs.
