Canada Offers Permanent Residency Pathways for Foreign Doctors

OTTAWA: Canada has announced new immigration measures aimed at attracting doctors from around the world, including Pakistan, as part of efforts to address physician shortages and strengthen the country’s healthcare system.

Under the updated policies, eligible medical doctors will have access to simplified pathways to permanent residency through multiple immigration streams, including Express Entry and provincial and regional programs.

The government also introduced a fast-track 14-day work permit process for doctors nominated by a province or territory, allowing them to begin working while their permanent residency applications are being processed.

In addition, applicants will be allowed to include their immediate family members in their applications, enabling them to relocate to Canada together.

The initiative is intended to help fill critical gaps in the healthcare workforce while making it easier for qualified international physicians to build long-term careers in Canada. Interested applicants must meet the eligibility requirements and submit the necessary supporting documents as part of the application process.
