Nolan’s Ajrak-Inspired Tie Brings Sindhi Heritage to Global Stage

NEW YORK: Award-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan attracted attention at the New York premiere of his latest film The Odyssey by wearing a custom silk tie inspired by the traditional Ajrak pattern, a centuries-old textile art associated with Sindh.

Paired with his signature dark suit, the tie featured intricate geometric motifs reminiscent of the historic craft. The unique accessory quickly went viral on social media, where many users praised it as a celebration of South Asian cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship.

The tie was created by a student from Parsons School of Design, blending classic tailoring with a design rooted in one of the region’s most recognizable textile traditions.

Nolan’s appearance came shortly after promoting The Odyssey in India alongside the film’s lead actors, making the Ajrak-inspired tie at the New York premiere an unexpected highlight of the film’s international publicity tour.

The fashion choice was widely welcomed by admirers of Sindhi culture, who viewed it as a meaningful moment of global recognition for the iconic textile tradition.
