ISLAMABAD: The Finance Committee of the National Assembly has approved an increase in the salaries and perks of members of the parliament to bring them at a par with that of federal secretaries.
According to media reports, the committee, headed by NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, unanimously approved the increase in the salaries and allowances of MNAs and senators.
Sources said the salaries and allowances of MNAs and senators were recommended to be fixed at 519,000. The speaker has now sent the recommendations to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
All political parties, including PPP and PML-N, have been one voice on increasing salaries and perks of the lawmakers and 67 PTI members had also made a written demand for the increase.
It may be noted that after all deductions, the salary and allowances of a federal secretary are 519,000 per month.
Sources said the lawmakers had demanded a salary of Rs100,000 per month, but Speaker Ayaz Sadiq rejected the proposal.
