ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar is set to visit New York on February 18 to participate in a high-level United Nations Security Council (UNSC) briefing on the situation in Palestine.

The briefing, chaired by the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary in her capacity as President of the Security Council, is expected to focus on the ongoing conflict and the broader Middle East peace process.

During the session, Dar will reaffirm Pakistan’s steadfast and principled stance on Palestine. He is expected to strongly condemn Israel’s recent actions, particularly its illegal expansion of control over the West Bank, and reiterate Pakistan’s call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

The foreign minister will also emphasize the full implementation of UNSC resolution 2803, which is crucial to facilitating humanitarian assistance and laying the groundwork for Gaza’s long-term recovery and reconstruction.

In addition, Senator Dar will continue to advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people. He will stress the importance of a just and lasting peace that is based on international law, ultimately leading to the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

Pakistan has long supported the creation of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous Palestinian state, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, based on pre-1967 borders.

As part of the visit, the foreign minister will engage with international and regional partners, including the Group of Eight Arab and Islamic countries and the United States, to further discuss measures to advance peace efforts in the region.

On the margins of the UN briefing, Senator Dar is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with various counterparts to discuss matters of mutual interest, further strengthening Pakistan’s diplomatic ties and international engagement on critical global issues.
