EU to Provide €160 Million Loan for Karachi’s Water Projects

KARACHI: The European Union will provide Pakistan a total of €160 million in loans to support flood-affected communities and improve water supply in Karachi.

The formal loan agreements will be signed on 28 April between the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the government of Pakistan.

According to reports, out of the total package, €100 million will be allocated for flood relief efforts in Sindh. The funds will be used to support the construction of approximately 2.1 million homes, aimed at rehabilitating and resettling families affected by the floods.

The EU has also allocated €60 million for Karachi’s water supply and quality improvement projects. These initiatives are expected to enhance access to clean drinking water and strengthen urban water infrastructure in the city.
