Five Dead, 23 Injured in Rain-Related Incidents in Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab witnessed a tragic spell of rain-related incidents over the past 24 hours, resulting in the deaths of at least five people and injuries to 23 others across several districts.

According to rescue officials, the casualties occurred due to a combination of severe weather conditions including lightning strikes, falling trees, electrocution, and collapsing structures. In Narowal, two people lost their lives after being struck by lightning in separate incidents, highlighting the intensity of electrical storms in the region.

In another incident on the Nandi Pur–Sialkot Road in Gujranwala, a man was killed when a tree uprooted by strong winds fell on him.

Lahore also reported multiple fatalities, including a person who died from electrocution in Kot Khwaja Saeed and another motorcyclist who was crushed under a falling tree on Canal Road in Harbanspura.

Other parts of Lahore witnessed additional damage and injuries as rain-triggered hazards continued. In Green Town, a falling tree injured a man, while at Shadiwal Chowk four people were hurt after an 11kV electricity line collapsed. In Abid Market, a falling signboard left another person injured.

Meanwhile, in Narowal and Kamoke, structural collapses added to the toll, with incidents involving falling walls and solar panels leaving several individuals injured.

Rescue teams responded to multiple emergency calls throughout the day, shifting the injured to nearby hospitals. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious during ongoing unstable weather conditions and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and storms.
