ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in brokering a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran have drawn widespread praise from world leaders, who described the development as a crucial step toward easing tensions in the Middle East.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres termed the ceasefire a positive step and urged all parties to adhere to international law and the agreed terms, stressing the need to move towards a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed confidence that negotiations would proceed in good faith, congratulating Pakistan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their “tireless and courageous diplomacy.” He noted that Pakistan’s engagement with all sides reflects strong international responsibility and solidarity.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also welcomed the truce and thanked Pakistan for its mediation efforts, emphasizing that diplomacy must now be used to secure a permanent end to the conflict.

Several other countries, including Indonesia, Australia, Egypt, New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Oman, and Japan, echoed similar sentiments. They described the ceasefire as an important opportunity to advance dialogue, reduce tensions, and restore stability in the region.

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev specifically acknowledged the mediation efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in achieving the breakthrough.

Meanwhile, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott praised Pakistan’s quiet and effective diplomacy, calling it instrumental in securing the ceasefire.

Global leaders have underlined that while the truce is a significant development, sustained diplomatic engagement will be crucial to achieving a long-term and peaceful resolution to the conflict.
