SHENZHEN: Two humanoid robots stunned spectators after competing in what organizers described as the world’s first mixed martial arts (MMA) contest for human-shaped robots in Shenzhen, China.
China has rapidly expanded the use of robotics across industries, with robots increasingly being deployed in restaurants, factories and even sporting events.
During the exhibition bout, a white humanoid robot faced a black humanoid robot inside an MMA-style ring. A video of the contest has gone viral on social media.
The robots were seen exchanging punches and kicks in a display designed to showcase advances in balance, mobility and combat algorithms.
One of the highlights came when the white robot landed a powerful jumping kick on its opponent. According to reports, the impact damaged the black robot’s neck mechanism, but it continued operating and fighting despite the apparent malfunction.
The event also drew a large crowd of spectators, reflecting growing public interest in China’s rapidly advancing robotics technology.
The demonstration highlighted the country’s progress in developing humanoid robots capable of performing complex, dynamic movements in competitive environments.
