Indian agency seeks capital punishment for Yasin Malik

Kashmiri leader arrested in 2019 by occupation forces languishing in jail in New Delhi for life.

NEW DELHI: A petition seeking capital punishment for Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik is set to be taken up by the Delhi High Court on August 9.

Meanwhile, a judge of the high court has recused himself from hearing the plea filed by an Indian agency to change the life imprisonment of the Kashmiri leader into capital punishment.

The Kashmiri leader was arrested from his home in Srinagar in 2019 by occupation forces and later shifted to the capital city of India snd sentenced to life on charge of terrorism. He has been languishing in the notorious Tahar jail in New Delhi since 2022.

Human rights activists and Kashmiri political parties have called upon the international community to pressure India for the release of Malik, saying his prosecution was illegal.

Yasin Malik’s wife Mushsal Hussain has, meanwhile, alleged that her husband was being denied basic rights in the jail. She feared for his life.

It may be noted that the occupation forces have picked up hundreds of political leaders and activists who are being kept in illegal detention to silence the voice of the Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination.

Calls by Kashmiri leaders and human rights organizations to stop Indian brutalities and rampant violations of human rights by the occupation Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir have fell on deaf ears.
