ISLAMABAD: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi has said that an international dialogue will be held in October to discuss issues pertaining to refugees.
He stated this at a meeting between Minister for States, Frontier Regions, Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam here on Monday.
Pakistan has been playing a key role in hosting refugees for decades and the international community acknowledges its importance in making any policy decision regarding refugees.
He expressed the hope that the conference will create a new dimension and avenues for the support of refugees across the globe.
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi has lauded the people and government of Pakistan for hosting Afghan refugees for over four decades.
The minister on the occasion said Pakistan acknowledges UNHCR’s continued support for Afghan refugees for the past forty five years. He said Pakistan hosts millions of Afghan refugees, providing protection, education and health facilities to them.
He however said that of late there has been a decline in support for Afghan refugees and allocation of development funds for them in Pakistan. He stressed the need for exclusive, generous and sustainable interventions in this connection.
