Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz After US Attacks

TEHRAN: Iran has ordered the closure of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz to all maritime traffic, including oil tankers and commercial vessels, following recent US attacks, according to Iranian state media.

Reports citing Iran’s senior joint military command said that any vessel attempting to pass through the waterway would be targeted. The decision comes amid escalating tensions and a deteriorating security situation in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, through which a significant portion of global oil supply is transported.

Analysts warn that the closure could have far-reaching consequences for global energy markets, trade routes, and economic stability.

Iranian authorities stated that the move was taken in response to current security concerns, though it is expected to further heighten tensions in the already volatile Middle East region.

International observers fear that the situation could escalate further, potentially disrupting global supply chains and driving up fuel prices worldwide.
