TEHRAN: Iran has refused to grant access to the International Atomic Energy Agency for inspection of its nuclear facilities.
According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, inspectors from the global nuclear watchdog will not be allowed to visit sensitive sites, including Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan, which were reportedly damaged in recent strikes attributed to the United States and Israel.
He said the current security situation does not permit the presence of any foreign teams at these strategic locations, emphasizing that national safety considerations take priority.
The spokesperson also dismissed reports claiming he had held a meeting with the IAEA Director General in Switzerland, terming such reports inaccurate.
On the issue of frozen assets, the spokesperson stated that Iran is not facing any new restrictions on accessing its funds.
Earlier, the US claimed that Tehran had agreed to comprehensive inspections of its nuclear facilities, suggesting progress in ongoing negotiations. However, Iranian authorities have now contradicted those assertions.
The development comes amid continued diplomatic engagements between Iran and the United States, with discussions focusing on Tehran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief and broader regional security concerns.
