Iranian Foreign Minister Meets PM, CDF in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a high-level meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, during his official visit to Islamabad, amid heightened diplomatic activity and regional security developments.

According to a statement issued by the Iranian Embassy, this was the first formal meeting between Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Field Marshal Asim Munir. The meeting was also attended by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and National Security Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Asim Malik.

Sources said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Reza Amiri-Moghadam, and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei were also present during the meeting.

Araghchi arrived in Pakistan a day earlier with a high-level delegation and is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior leadership during his visit. The development comes amid intensified diplomatic engagement in the region, with reports also confirming expected visits by US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan.

Security has been placed on high alert in Islamabad, with increased deployment of personnel in and around the Red Zone and key arteries of the capital. The Extended Red Zone has also been sealed as part of tightened security measures linked to ongoing regional diplomatic activity and sensitive negotiations.
