TEL AVIV: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has admitted that his country failed to realize the military prowess of Hamas while launching a war on Gaza in October last year.
In an interview to an American magazine, he said that the objective of the war on Gaza was to dismantle and destroy the administrative and military powers of Hamas. He said that after the end to the war, Israel wants to take over the administration of Gaza. He said that his country wants to make Hamas unable to take over the administration of Gaza again and become a threat to Israel.
In reply to a question, the Israeli prime minister said that there was no possibility of an end to the Gaza war in the near future.
He said that Israel was confronted with Hamas in Gaza and other actors in the region, including Iran. He said that extension of the war would be dangerous, but his country was ready to fight such a war.
He also said that after the end of the Gaza war, an independent commission would be formed to probe the October 7 attacks on Israel from Gaza and all responsible authorities including the prime minister would be bound to appear before the commission.
