ISLAMABAD: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and across the world are observing Accession to Pakistan Day, commemorating the adoption of the historic resolution in favor of joining Pakistan on July 19, 1947.
The day marks the resolution passed by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference in Srinagar before the creation of Pakistan, expressing the desire of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to accede to Pakistan.
According to Pakistani officials, the resolution reflects the political aspirations, national consciousness, and longstanding ties between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan.
They describe it as a key historical and political basis for Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir dispute and for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
People observing the day renewed their commitment to continue efforts toward realizing the objectives of the July 19, 1947 resolution.
In a statement marking the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari said the day serves as a reminder of the historical aspirations of the Kashmiri people and highlighted the deep historical, cultural, and spiritual ties between Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir.
He reiterated Pakistan’s position that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and urged the international community to pay attention to the human rights situation in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
