LAHORE: The main accused in the Libya boat tragedy in which over 100 Pakistani illegal immigrants lost their lives has been arrested in Lahore.
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director Sarfraz Virk said that the accused identified as Muhammad Iqbal was taken into custody from Allama Iqbal International Airport.
According to Virk, the accused had been living in Libya since 2013 and was running a human trafficking network.
The Director FIA said that the accused was also involved in money laundering from Libya to the human trafficking network. The name of the accused was on the blacklist and various cases were registered against him.
It may be recalled that in June 2023, a boat carrying migrants from Libya to Greece sank near Greece, more than 100 Pakistanis were among the dead.
