National anti-polio campaign starts tomorrow

More than 9.5 million children under five years of age will be administered polio vaccine, say officials.

ISLAMABAD: A polio campaign is starting in 41 districts in the four provinces from tomorrow during which millions of children will be administered drops against the crippling disease.

Health officials said arrangements have been made to cover children under the age of five years through door to door visits by polio teams and at mobile and transit points.

More than 9.5 million children under five years of age will be administered polio vaccine, said the officials.

Sixteen of the districts in which the drive will be launched are in Balochistan, 11 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eight in Sindh and five in Punjab.

Moreover, door-to-door campaign will be conducted in specific areas of Islamabad.

For this purpose, teams have been deployed in the selected districts along with police gor their security.

Despite repeated campaigns, Pakistan is one of the two countries still unable to eradicate polio, the other being Afghanistan.
