New operation: ambassador seeks small arms from USA

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US Masood Khan has requested the US government to provide small arms to Pakistan for an operation being launched against terrorists.

He was speaking at a conference on Pakistan organized by a think than in Washington in which former US ambassadors to Pakistan also participated.

He said that in order to achieve success against terrorists, Pakistan needs modern small arms. The terror groups have used sophisticated arms against security forces in Pakistan.

Other speakers at the conference criticized the US policy in Afghanistan.

The launch of the Operation Istihkam e Pakistan was approved at a recent meeting of the apex committee of the National Action Plan chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The PTI latter demanded that approval for the operation should be taken from the parliament. However, the government clarified that no major operation was being launched but intelligence based operation would be intensified against terrorists.
