ISLAMABAD: While reports about arrests and deaths along with deportations of Pakistanis continued, the government has said 1,638 agents were arrested and 458 human traffickers convicted in Pakistan in the year 2024.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the National Assembly that the government was taking stringent actions against human traffickers.
Action has been taken against FIA officials found complicit with traffickers, claiming the government had l zero-tolerance policy toward such practices.
However, ground realities belied the claim of the government as human smugglers continued sending gullible unemployed youth abroad by promising them lucrative jobs and robbing them of millions of rupees.
These job seekers however end up in jails of different countries and deported back to Pakistan. Hundreds of Pakistani illegal migrants sent abroad by human smugglers have also died in different accidents such as shipwrecks while trying to reach European countries.
Human rights activists day that it was very dangerous that officials supposed to check crimes such as human smuggling were involved in helping agents in sending people abroad illegally.
