ISLAMABAD: The federal government is set to present the budget for the fiscal year 2026–27 in the National Assembly today.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will unveil a budget estimated at over Rs17.5 trillion.
According to initial details, the government has set a tax revenue target of Rs15,267 billion. A significant portion of the budget, around Rs7,824 billion, will be allocated for debt servicing, while approximately Rs3 trillion is expected to be reserved for defense.
There is a likelihood of an increase in salaries and pensions for government employees. The government also plans to collect Rs1,727 billion through petroleum levy. Export targets have been set at $32.8 billion, while imports are projected to reach $70 billion.
No new development projects are expected to be launched, with focus remaining on ongoing initiatives. Reports also suggest that tax exemptions for former FATA regions may be withdrawn.
The National Assembly session for the budget presentation is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM.
