UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has called for urgent diplomatic efforts to de-escalate rising tensions in the Middle East during a session of the United Nations Security Council.
Addressing the meeting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, warned that the current situation in the region is becoming increasingly serious and could pose a threat not only to regional stability but also to global peace.
He said that immediate, effective, and meaningful diplomatic measures are essential to address the crisis, cautioning that failure by all parties to show restraint and responsibility could lead to a wider conflict.
The envoy noted that recent developments have further complicated the already fragile situation and have negatively impacted ongoing diplomatic efforts, including those related to the Iranian nuclear issue.
Reiterating Pakistan’s long-standing position, he said dialogue and negotiations remain the only viable path to resolving conflicts.
He added that Pakistan has been actively working with the international community and its partners to promote ceasefire efforts and revive dialogue between the concerned parties.
According to him, both sides have shown willingness to engage, creating a rare opportunity for direct communication after years.
Pakistan, he said, has played a constructive role in facilitating contacts, building trust, and creating an environment conducive to meaningful dialogue.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar urged all sides to exercise patience and responsibility and to give diplomacy another chance, stressing that lasting peace and global security can only be achieved through constructive engagement.
