ISLAMABAD: Talks between the Federal Government and different companies have entered the final stage on the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Official sources in Islamabad in Karachi say that bidding for the privatization of PIA was expected to be held in October. The companies have already completed their scrutiny and audit of PIA’s assets and liabilities.
The companies interested in participating in the beating process for the privatization on the national flag carrier have asked the government to hold talks with authorities in European Union countries and Britain to restore PIA flights to these countries. The EU and Britain have imposed a ban on PIA flights to their countries.
In this regard, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar recently visited Britain and held talks with authorities for the restoration of PIA flights. Mr Dar told a news conference in London that his talks with authorities would lead to the lifting of the ban on PIA flights.
The officials also said that the government had approached the interested companies to relax their condition of terminating the PIA employees within three years. These companies have made it clear that they would retain or terminate the employees on the basis of their qualifications and requirement.
