Pir Adil Shah Gilani elected new mayor of Islamabad

PML-N’s Pir Adil Shah Gilani has been elected as the new mayor of Islamabad while the ruling PTI candidate Malik Sajjad has been defeated. Pir Adil Gilani got 43 votes while his opponent Malik Sajjad of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf got 26 votes.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, out of a total of 73 votes, 69 votes were cast. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) got 26 votes despite having 24 members in the Metropolitan Corporation Assembly.

A member of PTI did not cast his vote as he was abroad, so the ruling party got 3 more votes.
