Portugal imposes night curfew on coronavirus cases

LISBON:  Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa has announced that Portugal has imposed night curfews to curb the spread of the corona virus. The curfew will start from Monday and will continue for 15 days.

The Prime Minister said that the government will take all possible steps to control the coronavirus.

According to the news agency Reuters, after the record cases of corona virus in Portugal, it has been decided to impose curfew at night. The curfew will continue from 11 pm to 5 am. During the last 24 hours, a record 6,640 cases were reported. After which the total number of cases had reached one lakh 73 thousand 540.

Following the government’s decision, some businesses will be closed while restaurants will remain open. There will be a ban on leaving the house on Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm to 5am.

Initially, the emergency has been imposed for 15 days, which can be extended. The government is of the view that some sacrifices have to be made to celebrate Christmas in December.
