PESHAWAR: In a show of solidarity and defiance, a large number of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers staged a demonstration in Peshawar on Friday, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the party’s founding chairman Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and other incarcerated leaders.

The protest, which was attended by scores of party workers from various areas of Peshawar, featured passionate chants and slogans, with participants holding party flags and photos of Imran Khan. The demonstrators converged on the city’s main thoroughfare, causing a significant traffic jam, but maintaining a peaceful tone throughout the protest.

Addressing the protest, MPA Meena Khan, Taimoor Jaghra, Fazail Elahi, and other Leaders condemned the “illegal detention” of Imran Khan and other party leaders, calling for their swift release from jail.

They criticized the federal government and Election Commission for their perceived injustices, alleging that the detentions were politically motivated and aimed at silencing opposition voices.

The speakers also vowed to resist any anti-people measures, warning the government that PTI workers would not stand idly if their leaders were not released. They rejected the federal budget, arguing that it failed to address the welfare of common citizens and instead catered to the interests of the ruling elite.

The protesters’ leaders emphasized that the agitation would continue until Imran Khan and other detained leaders were released from jail. They announced plans for further protests and demonstrations in the coming days, warning the government that PTI workers would not back down until their demands were met.

The demonstration was held in response to a call by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to raise voices against the detention of PTI leaders. The protest marked a significant show of strength by the PTI, which has been facing a crackdown on its leadership and workers in recent weeks.
