Punjab Completes Restoration of Protective Dykes in Flood-Hit Areas

LAHORE: Under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the departments concerned have completed the repair and reconstruction of protective dykes in flood-affected regions within a record period of time.

In the outskirts of Muzaffargarh, authorities fully rehabilitated the Noraja Bhutta dyke. They rebuilt the 1,960-foot-long flood-damaged protective embankment and closed the 1,250-foot breach caused by floodwaters.

With the latest work, they transformed the dyke into a reinforced embankment stretching 3,450 feet in total.

At Hafizwala near the motorway, workers repaired and restored a 23,000-foot-long distributary track. They also repaired two damaged roads by closing a 410-foot-long breach.

Teams across flood-hit areas have already repaired and filled 33,700 feet of breaches, completing more than 80 percent of the work. They expect to finalize the remaining sections shortly. In addition, they successfully repaired and strengthened the 283-foot breach on the fourth canal.
