Senate passes bill to protect properties of overseas Pakistanis

Cases involving properties of overseas Pakistanis will be decided in 90 days under draft law, says minister.

KARACHI: Senate on Thursday passed a bill aimed at protecting the properties of overseas Pakistan in the country.

The bill was presented in the house by Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain. The bill was passed by the house unanimously.

The minister told the house that the bill envisages steps to protect the properties of the Pakistanis living and working abroad. He said that under the draft law any court cases involving property of overseas Pakistanis would be decided in 90 days.

For this purpose, special courts would be set up. In case of any complaint, the overseas Pakistanis could file a court case online from any part of the world.

For years, Pakistanis living abroad have been complaining about occupation of their properties such as houses and plots across Pakistan. When they approach courts against the occupiers, it takes years and years to reach a decision.

Of late, successive governments have promised to take steps to facilitate the overseas Pakistanis when they face such a problems. the government has now also announced to provide overseas Pakistanis incentives for investment in their home country.
