ISLAMABAD: Senator Talha Mahmood on Tuesday announced his decision to join the PPP after quitting the JUI-F.

Addressing a press conference along with PPP leaders Faisal Karim Kundi and Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Talha Mahmood said he wanted to serve the people at the national level for which the PPP was the best platform.

He said the country was facing hosts of issues for which joint efforts were needed to steer it out of the crises.

It may be mentioned here that Talha Mahmood contested the February 8 general elections for the lone National Assembly seat of Chitral on the ticket of the JUI-F and remained the runner-up with about 42,900 votes.

His participation in the elections from Chitral and open use of money as bribe to win votes was severely criticized by all other contesting candidates and a complaint was also lodged against him with the Election Commission of Pakistan.

In a statement to the media, Mahmood said he had been personally invited by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to join the PPP. Additionally, he had a fruitful meeting with Asif Zardari a week ago during which he was extended an invitation to join the party.

Reflecting on his political journey, Mahmood acknowledged his longstanding affiliation with the JUI. However, he emphasized that given the current challenges facing Pakistan it is imperative for all individuals to come together and contribute towards overcoming these obstacles.

Nayar Bukhari, the Secretary General of the People’s Party, welcomed Mehmood into the party, recognizing his experience and leadership in the political arena.

Bukhari expressed confidence that Mahmood’s role within the People’s Party would be significant and his skills would be effectively utilized in addressing the country’s pressing issues.
